Dr.Sasmita Sabat is an Assistant Professor of the Department of Biotechnology at PES University.

Brief Profile :

Dr. Sasmita Sabat currently working as a faculty and researcher at PES University, Department of Biotechnology. She started her career in teaching and applied research in the field of Microbiology in 1994, Department of Microbiology, LIT, Nagpur University. She completed her graduation with college rank one in 1991 and M Sc in Microbiology, 1993, Ravishankar University, Raipur, Madhya Pradesh. Earned PhD in Microbiology on thesis titled, “Study of the process development for the production of Poly Beta-Hydroxy Butyrate” from the Department of Microbiology, LIT, Nagpur University in 1998. She has 22 years of teaching and research exprerience in various fields of Microbiology and Biotechnology viz., Medical Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Environmental Biotechnology, Microbial physiology etc. Her major contribution has been in the field of biodegradation of plastics, production of biopolymers, biosensors for the detection of toxic metals in water samples and phage treatment for skin infections. The rigorous research has contributed to the development and advancement of technology that fosters healthier, non-polluted, non-toxic and hazardous-free environment with easily available and cost-effective techniques. While emulating high standards of seminal inquiry, research excellence and societal accountability, this collaborative initiative elicited broad participation of various students for projects, under her guidance, researchers for M.Sc. & PhD, academicians and industry associates. Her research outcome is being broadly disseminated through more than 35 journal publications also in conferences at National & International levels. She has worked as Principal Investigator on several external funded projects. She is the Editorial board member as well as reviewer for many National & International Journals.
She was recognised as Distinguished Women in Science Award for Microbiology by Centre for Women Empowerment, Venus International Foundation, Annual Women's Meet, Chennai, March 4, 2017. MICROBIOLOGIST 2016 Award by Society for Educational and Scientific Research, International Conference on Green technology for Health and Environment: Implementations and Policies, Bangalore, Dec. 15-16, 2016.
