Dr.Seema Tharannum is an Associate Professor of the Department of Biotechnology at PES University.

Brief Profile

Dr. Seema Tharannum obtained Master of Science in Biotechnology from Mysore University , Master of Philosophy in Biotechnology from Bharathidasan University and PhD in Biotechnology from Kuvempu University. She is working as Associate Professor in PES University and has a total experience of 22 years in teaching. She had two funded projects, Principal Investigator for a UGC minor research project for 'Microbial mediated remediation of chromium in electroplating industry' for 1.5 Lakhs (2011-2013) and Co investigator for a CDAC sponsored project 'Detection of Pebrine spores' for an amount of 6 lakhs. (2014), the project has ended up in commercialization of the product under trade name PP solution (PES Pebrine solution) at Institute.
She has ten International and National Journal publications and more than forty conference paper presentations. She has presented papers in India, Malaysia, Dubai, Thailand, Qatar and Singapore. She has guided more than forty post graduate and under graduate students groups and have organized national and International seminars, conferences and workshops at Institute. She has Organizational involvement aswell like: coordinator for Indian Red cross wing, Internal Audit committee, community development programs and member of IQAC.

Other achievements and recognitions are , she is a Member of Board of Studies in Mount Carmel college (Autonomous), Jyothi Nivas college (Autonomous), she was an Invited judge for lecture competition in intercollegiate competition at RV college, BHM Dept. PES Institute, Invited reviewer for 3rd International Conference on Machine Learning and Computing held in Singapore, Reviewer of International Journal of Bioscience, Biochemistry and Bioinformatics (IJBBB), Chaired a session at 3rd International Conference on Chemical, Biological and Environmental Engineering held at Singapore on 16-18 Sept , 2011 , Member of technical committee at International Conference on Biomedical Engineering and Technology held at Hong Kong, June 2-3, 2012 and at 3rd International Conference on Biomedical Engineering and Technology held at Denmark, May 19-20, 2013, Chaired a session at National conference on recent trends in Biotechnology, held at Sir MVIT , Bangalore on 25th March 2014. She has also been an Invited chief guest at AMC college of engineering on ECO ethics day. She has Visited Kathmandu University, Nepal with students between 20th to 23rd January 2017 to study constructed wet land. She has Delivered Guest lectures at CMR College , Maharani Ammanni college , New Horizon college of engineering, Mount carmel college and at PES college of pharmacy. She was also an invited speaker at one day workshop GNANA SAMANVAYA organized by Tumkur University on 31st March 2017.

  • Working as Associate professor in the Department of Biotechnology, PES University, Bangalore since April 2015 till date. I am involved in teaching the Under Graduate and Post Graduate students and as well in activities such as the scientific support for research development.
  • Worked as Assistant professor in the Department of Biotechnology, PES Institute of Technology, Bangalore since May 2011 till April 2015.
  • Worked as Lecturer in the Department of Biotechnology, PES Institute of Technology, Bangalore since Sept. 2003 till May 2011. I was involved in teaching the Post Graduate students and as well in activities such as the scientific support for research development.
  • Worked as lecturer in the Department of Biotechnology, BMS College, Bangalore teaching under graduate students for four years between 1999 and 2003.
  • Worked as lecturer in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, SN Institute of Dental Sciences, Hassan teaching under graduate students for four years between 1995 and 1999.

appreciation prizeof Rs. 10,000 cash.
