Dr. V. Sambasiva Rao, Professor in ECE Department of PESIT/PES University, Bengaluru since July 2011, is an engineering graduate (1973) from College of Engineering, Kakinada (Andhra University) and obtained Ph.D from BITS, Pilani in 2010. For over 37 years ( April 1974 to June 2011), he was associated with ISRO in various capacities and primarily responsible for the development of high bit rate data transmitters for all IRS series of satellites and various RF and microwave systems in S, C, X, Ku and Ka bands for IRS and INSAT missions. He was also responsible for planning communication satellites and development of associated technologies. He had carried out Test and Evaluation of ISRO ground stations. He had successfully carried out numerous responsibilities, at ISRO, as Project Manager/Deputy Project Director for different satellite projects, Head of Communication Systems Group and Associate Director for satellite technologies. He superannuated as Dy. Director of Digital and Communication Area from ISRO Satellite Centre in June 2011.
He is a Senior member, IEEE, Fellow of IETE, Member of IET and a Member of Astronautical Society of India.
He has received the Distinguished Achievement Award from the Department of Space for launching Aryabhata in 1975, NRDC Award 1994 for the development of X-band high bit rate QPSK modulator, IETE-IRSI (83) Award 2006 for the development of high bit rate data transmitters, Team Excellence Award from ISRO for the development of X-band spherical phased array and ASI-ISRO Award for 2007 from Astronautical Society of India (Spacecraft & Related Technologies).
At PES University, apart from teaching to UG and PG students, he is also associated with Crucible of Research and Innovations and responsible for various R&D activities. He has established an S-band satellite ground station at PES University campus and guiding students for developing a student satellite-PISAT."
