Psychology is more than just a study of mind and behaviour with a vast research area of interest, advancing tools and assessments. Psychology has become one of the influential aspects in every sector. With growing awareness about mental health, psychology is being incorporated into everyday life.
Psychology currently is one of the ever-growing science disciplines with increasing demand for professionals globally. As psychology studies the conscious and unconscious human mind, Psychologists are involved in understanding the physiological process of the brain and behaviour. Psychology Honours at PES offers you optional modules such as Clinical, Health, Neuropsychology, Organisational Psychology, Forensic Psychology and Sports Psychology.
Key Differentiators of B.Sc Psychology @ PESU
- Unlike the 3 years B.Sc. programme offered at other colleges, the Psychology 4-year Hons degree has a curriculum that puts the prime focus on studying Psychology. The curriculum is meticulously developed to provide the best of traditional and upcoming fields of psychology.
- The Eighth semester is completely dedicated to internship and project to offer more practical exposure for skill development. In addition, there are two summer internships.
- Another “one of its kind” initiative of the programme is a greater focus to help students develop more employability skills and competencies. Leading practitioners in the field were contacted to understand the profiles they look for in future psychologists. These skills sets were incorporated into a compulsory skill development programme called “Reflections”. These sessions are aimed at developing a balanced and objective view of human behaviours after intensive introspection sessions and working through self-issues.
- The programme also incorporates a 4-credit course on giving students real time experience of working in a hospital set up. The course aims at helping students connect and establish rapport with patients coming from diverse backgrounds and getting acclimatized to a hospital environment. This is component is also a unique feature of the programme.
- Hands-on experience is emphasised to gain practical experience in various sub-areas of psychology.

Why Psychology at PES University?
B.Sc (Hons) Psychology Program at PESU will be for four years with an exit option after the completion of three years. The program will consist of 142 credits spread over eight semesters. The curriculum has been designed meticulously to provide students with very detailed course work, which will enhance their knowledge and practical skill to become critical thinkers and analysers.
We aim to deliver the best facilities to the students, which will cater to the present available and increasing opportunities.
Program Highlights
- It is a Four-year HONOURS degree specialising in psychology, unlike another three-year Undergraduate programme that offers three subject specialisations.
- First three years provide a strong foundation in various sub-areas of psychology including newer emerging areas in sports psychology, forensic psychology, neuroscience, cross-cultural psychology and so on.
- The course is designed to provide practical exposure through multiple means such as experiential learning modules (case study discussions, role plays, documentaries screening, field visits and guest lectures), 4 compulsory internships, and a major research project.
- The program also includes student self-development and skill enhancement opportunities through “Reflection” session and hospital working hours.
- In line with the student’s interest, they can opt for papers in the fourth year from the choices offered by the department.
- The course provides foundations for specialisations in clinical psychology, industrial and organisational psychology, forensic psychology, neuropsychology, school psychology etc.

- Comprehensive knowledge of the social science and natural science concepts in the functioning of the human mind, body, and behaviour.
- The ability to formulate problem statements in psychology and to develop hypotheses, analyse data, and interpret results.
- Appreciate the implications of ethical issues and professionalism in the research and practice of psychology.
- Develop the aptitude for multidisciplinary in the theory, application, and practice of psychology.

Course Work
- The course is spread into both theory as well as practical papers.
- In addition to the theory and practical papers, students will have two language papers: the first language being General English and the second language being Kannada/Hindi/Additional English.
- Field work /Extension Activities is compulsory for every semester. The students are encouraged for these activities. These activities help the students to apply the theoretical knowledge that learn to the outside world.
- Educational trips are organized periodically. The students are taken to various places such as rehabilitation centres/ media centres/ outreach programmes whereby providing a platform to study outside classroom.
- Supervised Assignments/Projects are mandatory in every semester.
- Personal mentoring programs are held in a regular basis. This provides a platform for the students to share their concerns regarding academics or other personal issues.
