Why Law @ PESU
Established in 2017 under the able guidance of Dr. M.R. Doreswamy, Chancellor of PES University, the Faculty of Law is committed to becoming a Global Law School. Through our innovative curriculum and immersive learning approach, students gain a competitive edge and a deep understanding of the legal field.
- Curriculum Design: Our programs include specialized honors courses, legal aid initiatives, industrial visits, and seminars by legal luminaries. Each course and project is designed to build distinct skillsets in research, advocacy, and problem-solving—vital competencies for aspiring lawyers.From research paper writing and class presentations to moot court exercises and case simulations, students develop critical skills essential for a successful legal career.
- PESU Legal Eagle – Paid Apprenticeship Program: From the first year through the fifth, students participate in a unique, paid apprenticeship program, providing hands-on experience in legal practice and a stipend from the University. This program allows students to apply classroom knowledge in real-world settings from day one.
- PESU Exposure: Zero Hour – Insights from Leading Minds: Every week, prominent speakers, including Civil Servants, Judges, Lawyers, Policy Makers, and Industry Experts conduct engaging sessions on contemporary topics. Past guests have included top experts in law, public policy, management, and the arts. These interactions open doors to invaluable networking and mentorship opportunities.
- Experiential Learning: Integrated Internship Program Years 1 to 3 – Students gain exposure to legal services in NGOs, Human Rights Commissions, Arbitration Centers, Consumer Forums, and more, fostering practical insights into social and community-focused legal work. Years 4 and 5 – Advanced internships atCorporate Law Firms, the Supreme Court, Central and StateMinistries, In-House Legal Departments, prepare students for diverse legal careers.
- Research-Driven Learning – Essential Skill Development: Research is fundamental to the lawyer’s craft. At PES University, students have access to premier national and international legal databases, including Manupatra, SCC Online, Hein Online, LexisNexis and JSTOR. This access supports comprehensive research training, with elective courses across four specialized groups, enabling students to tailor their expertise.
- Student-Run Committees and Skills Development: A vibrant collection of student-run-committees organizes events, conferences, competitions and skills-building workshops.
- PESU Legal Network – Connect to the World: Through partnerships with prominent institutions and law firms, our students gain invaluable exposure. Legal Services Clinic – Offers practical experience in social advocacy. Legal Services Clinics are established with a twin objective of inculcating an attitude amongst the students to provide effective legal and para legal services to the poor and marginalized sections of the society who have difficulty accessing the judicial system. Additionally, it also provides a centre to improve the clinical legal skills of the students. Demonstrating our commitment to society, we have adopted five villages to provide legal services to the under privileged.

- Running Internship Programme – PES University stands out with its unique running internship program, designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world legal practice. Starting from the third year of their legal education, Students have the opportunity to intern with corporate companies, top law firms, advocates’ offices, judges’ chambers, think tanks, and more. Students can utilize their time after class hours to pursue these internships, facilitating a seamless integration of theoretical learning with practical experience.

Internship, Placement Opportunities & Career Assistance
The Faculty of Law at PES University has a dedicated Internship and Placement Centre designed to assist students in securing internships and placements. It collaborates with the University’s central placement team to provide top-tier opportunities in the field of law. The Placement Centre offers comprehensive training, including mock tests and interview preparation, to equip students for successful career launches. Additionally, the Faculty of Law has established MOUs with various law firms and organizations, ensuring experiential learning and practical exposure for its students.
Internships
The internship program is designed to immerse students in the practical aspects of legal practice, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application. Students can undertake internships in various settings, including law chambers, courts, administrative offices, quasi-judicial bodies, prosecution departments, police and correctional institutions, corporate establishments, government law offices, legal aid centres, legislative secretariats, think tanks, research institutions, and non-governmental organizations.
The program focuses on developing essential professional skills, understanding professional ethics, addressing social responsibility, and managing challenging situations in both practical and professional contexts. Internships provide students with opportunities to explore diverse areas of law and various legal practice environments, helping them make informed decisions about their future career paths. Additionally, internships often lead to valuable professional connections and potential job opportunities.
The students have to undergo minimum of 20 weeks of internship during the internship breaks stipulated by PESU.

Running Internships
The Running Internship is a professional internship program that allows students to participate in internships outside class hours. Students are required to maintain detailed internship diaries and participate in an internship viva as part of the program’s evaluation process.
The students, from 5th semester have to undergo running internship after the class hours. Internship assistance will be provided by the Internship and Placement Centre, Faculty of Law with the request of the student
