About PES University Anti Ragging Committee

PES University gives immense emphasis on maintaining a ragging free campus. The Anti-Ragging Committee is constituted with Dean Student-Affairs as Chairman; Student counselor and nominated Faculty members from each Department as Coordinators. Along with the Coordinators from each Department there is a team of squad members that comprises faculty as well as staff members.

In the PES University, if any student has any grievance in the nature of ragging, including any kind of harassment, the same can be brought to the notice of the Chairman or any of the Committee Members from various departments, for necessary action and redressal.

Objective of ARC

To prohibit, prevent and eliminate the scourge of ragging including any conduct by any student whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness a fresher or any other student, or indulging in undisciplined activities by any student.

What constitutes Ragging?

Ragging constitutes one or more of any of the following acts:

  • Any act by a senior student that prevents, disrupts or disturbs the regular academic activity of any other student or a fresher.
  • Any act of financial extortion or forceful expenditure burden put on a fresher or any other student by students.
  • Any conduct by any student or students whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness a fresher or any other student.
  • Exploiting the services of a fresher or any other student for completing the academic tasks assigned to an individual or a group of students.
  • Indulging in rowdy or in disciplined activities by any student or students which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship, physical or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in any fresher or any other student.
  • Asking any student to do any act which such student will not in the ordinary course do and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame, or torment or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of such fresher or any other student.
  • Any act of physical abuse including all variants of it: sexual abuse, homosexual assaults, stripping, forcing obscene and lewd acts, gestures, causing bodily harm or any other danger to health or person.
  • Any act or abuse by spoken words, emails, post, public insults which would also include deriving perverted pleasure, vicarious or sadistic thrill from actively or passively participating in the discomfiture to fresher or any other student.
  • Any act that affects the mental health and self-confidence of a fresher or any other student with or without an intent to derive a sadistic pleasure or showing off power, authority or superiority by a student over any fresher.
  • Any act of physical or mental abuse (including bullying and exclusion) targeted at another student (fresher or otherwise) on the ground of color, race, religion, caste, ethnicity, gender (including transgender), sexual orientation, appearance, nationality, regional origins, linguistic identity, place of birth, place of residence or economic background.

Minutes of Anti Ragging Committee(ARC) Meeting

Meeting Code: PESU/ARC/2019-20 -#1:

The Anti Ragging Committee meeting #1 was convened on 10-02-2020 at the Boardroom from 10.30 am to 11.30 am to discuss the following agenda points:

  • Nominating the new Anti-Ragging Committee members and formation of the committee
  • Awareness creation about Anti-Ragging Committee in the PES University campus
  • Circulation of UGC Guidelines on Anti-Ragging in the PES University campus
  • Any report of the Anti-Ragging Committee in the PES University campus.
  • Visit to the hostel, departments, common places, etc.
  • Submission of Anti-Ragging Affidavit by the students
  • Counselor addressing freshers to prevent any physical or mental torture or any disorderly conduct towards any student causing apprehension, dread, humiliation, or agitation in him or her.

The meeting started with the Chairman making a presentation to the committee members on the understanding of the roles and responsibilities of PES University ARC and the departmental ARC coordinators.

Subsequent to the presentation the following agenda points were discussed and deliberated in this ARC meeting.

  • The committee decided to consider newly nominated members from teaching, non-teaching and student communities to the Anti ragging committee in need basis
  • The committee decided to prepare and print posters related to anti ragging with the contact details of the officers for effective communication.
  • The UGC guidelines pertaining to anti ragging decided to circulate to the students and the department. Decided to put anti ragging posters in the department notice board.
  • A schedule for hostel visit, department visit, common place visit at the break time, etc have been prepared and committee members asked to follow the schedule for the visit.
  • Only signed copies of anti-ragging affidavit of the students and parents were collected in the past, but now in pursuance to the Judgment of the Supreme Court order and the UGC notification on “Regulation on curbing the menace of ragging in Higher Educational Institutions”, the online anti ragging undertaking/ affidavit forms are filled in by the students and parents/guardian in the website www.antiragging.in
  • To prevent any physical or mental torture or any disorderly conduct towards any student causing apprehension, dread, humiliation, or agitation in him or her the awareness among the students are created at PES University.
