Why Law @ PESU

Established in 2017 under the able guidance of Dr. M.R. Doreswamy, Chancellor of PES University, the Faculty of Law is committed to becoming a Global Law School. Through our innovative curriculum and immersive learning approach, students gain a competitive edge and a deep understanding of the legal field.

The Faculty of Law, is working with an intent to create an enlightened and industrious fraternity of law students seeking to make an impact in the field of law and contribute constructively to society. This endeavour was undertaken with an intent to blend academic rigour and excellence with application and practical exposure in order to create a holistic experience for learning and to produce a professionally superior and ethically strong workforce.

  1. Curriculum Design: Our academic programmes integrate specialized honours courses with a wide range of experiential and professional learning initiatives, including legal services activities, industrial visits, seminars, expert talk and interactions with distinguished members of the legal lumenaries. Each course is designed to develop essential competencies in legal research, advocacy, communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving. Through research paper writing, class presentations, moot court exercises, case simulations, and other practice-oriented activities, students are encouraged to apply legal knowledge to real-world situations and develop the skills, professional confidence, and practical understanding necessary for a successful career in law.
  2. PESU Legal Eagle / Contemporary Law Forum: In their second year, students embark on an engaging Contemporary Law Forum, where small groups come together each week to explore, debate, and critically examine emerging laws and landmark judicial decisions. ach week unfolds as an intellectual exchange, transforming the classroom into a vibrant forum where diverse perspectives, arguments, and interpretations of contemporary legal developments take centre stage. Through this unique programme, students cultivate the confidence to articulate ideas, challenge perspectives, and connect evolving legal principles with the realities of the world around them.
  3. PESU Exposure: Zero Hour – Every week, students engage with accomplished professionals from diverse fields, including civil servants, judges, advocates, policymakers, industry leaders, and subject-matter experts, through insightful sessions on contemporary legal and interdisciplinary issues. The programme brings together distinguished voices from law, public policy, management, the arts, and other professional domains, exposing students to varied perspectives and real-world experiences. These interactions enrich classroom learning while providing students with opportunities to build meaningful professional connections, seek mentorship, and gain valuable insights into diverse career pathways.
  4. Experiential Learning: Our experiential learning ecosystem takes legal education beyond the conventional classroom, placing students in spaces where law is explored, tested, debated, and applied. Through moot courts, trial advocacy, client counselling, read-a-thons, hackathons, certificate programmes, legal services, field visits, and workshops, students learn through purposeful participation and practice. Through class presentations, research papers, and meaningful interactions with legal luminaries and practitioners, students encounter diverse viewpoints and gain first-hand insight into the workings of law, advocacy, research, and justice. These immersive experiences enable students to translate legal theory into action, strengthening legal reasoning, research and drafting abilities, oral and written communication, advocacy, critical inquiry, problem-solving, collaboration, and professional judgment. The learning process is designed to develop confident, practice-ready, socially conscious legal professionals who can engage thoughtfully with real-world legal challenges and professional responsibilities.
  5. Research-Driven Learning – Essential Skill Development: Research is fundamental to the lawyer’s craft. At PES University, students have access to premier national and international legal databases, including Manupatra, SCC Online, Hein Online, LexisNexis and JSTOR. This access supports comprehensive research training, with elective courses across four specialized groups, enabling students to tailor their expertise.
  6. Student-Centric Clubs and Committees: A vibrant collection of student-centric clubs and committees organizes events, conferences,
    competitions and skills-building workshops.
  7. PESU Legal Network – Connect to the World: Through partnerships with prominent institutions and leading law firms, our students gain invaluable exposure to diverse legal and professional environments. These collaborations provide students with opportunities to engage with practising legal professionals, observe professional practices, and understand the practical application of legal principles. They facilitate meaningful interactions, mentorship, internships, and experiential learning opportunities that complement classroom education. The Legal Services Clinic provides students with meaningful opportunities to develop practical skills in legal practice while contributing to the cause of access to justice. The Clinic has a dual objective: to cultivate a strong sense of social responsibility among students and to provide effective legal and para-legal assistance to economically and socially disadvantaged communities who face barriers in accessing the justice system. It also serves as a platform for students to strengthen their clinical legal skills, including legal research, client interaction, counselling, documentation, and advocacy. As part of our commitment to community engagement and social justice, the Faculty has adopted five villages to facilitate access to legal services for underserved and marginalized communities. Through these initiatives, students gain first-hand experience of the social dimensions of law while making a meaningful contribution to society.
